Finland’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Elina Valtonen, has expressed support for Denmark amid the appointment of a US special envoy to Greenland, and stated that decisions concerning Denmark and Greenland should be made by them alone.

“Self-evidently, it is for Denmark and Greenland to decide on matters concerning Denmark and Greenland,” Valtonen wrote on X.

The Finnish foreign minister added that Denmark has been a “fierce ally” of the US in Afghanistan and Iraq, suffered heavy losses, and faced terrorist threats related to its participation in US operations.

US President Donald Trump announced on Monday that Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry has been appointed as US Special Envoy to Greenland.
