YEREVAN. – The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) headquarters was the venue for a meeting during which the discussants conferred also on the petition for this organization granting an enhanced protection status to Armenia’s “Monastery of Geghard and the Upper Azat Valley” site, which is on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

As a result, it was unanimously decided to put this petition on the agenda of the 13th meeting of the Intergovernmental Committee of the 1999 Second Protocol Committee of UNESCO’s 1954 Hague Convention for the Protection of Cultural Property in the Event of Armed Conflict, and which will be convened in December, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia informed Armenian News-NEWS.am.

The “Monastery of Geghard and the Upper Azat Valley” site is considered a monument of greater value for mankind.
