YEREVAN. – A couple from Georgia has been charged with committing murders in Armenia.

The Investigative Committee of Armenia has completed the investigation on the criminal case into the murder of a 26-year-old man in Gegharkunik Province, and the murder of a 71-year-old woman in capital city Yerevan.

As a result, criminal charges have been brought against three Georgian citizens, the committee informed Armenian News-NEWS.am.

On May 31, 2018, Zhora Martirosyan, 26, was found dead—and with injuries to his head—in a car that was parked on a road leading from the Sevan Peninsula to the Sevan Government Summer Home.

It was found out that this man, who was a resident of Gyumri, had provided taxi service to the aforesaid Georgian couple and their friend, and transported them to Sevan. It turned out, however, that this couple had illegally entered Armenia from Georgia.

The investigation determined that this couple had struck and killed the young driver with stones, and their friend had witnessed this incident. Also, this Georgian couple had taken the gold ring of this young man and sold it at a shopping center in Yerevan.

The investigation also revealed another murder which this Georgian couple committed in Armenia.

Accordingly, on January 15, 2018 at about 12am, Anahit Aleksanyan, a Yerevan resident who was born in 1947, was found dead on the bed of her apartment where she was living alone. 

It was found out that the aforementioned Georgian couple had gotten acquainted with her. And on the night of January 13, 2018, they were hosted by Aleksanyan, during which the man choked the elderly woman to death. Subsequently, the couple stole her savings as well as gold and silver jewelry. Afterward, they made it seem like the woman had died suddenly in bed.

The couple has been charged on three counts, and their friend—on one count.

The criminal case and the indictment have been sent to the prosecutor.
