The Moldovan Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office has announced a new criminal case against former President Igor Dodon for allegedly forging a medical certificate, Sputnik.Moldova reports. The agency noted that in addition to the politician, the case also involves his wife Galina.

"Prosecutors have ordered the recognition and interrogation as suspects of the ex-president of Moldova, his wife and the doctor who produced the forged medical document. The doctor is suspected of making and possessing false official documents. The ex-president and his wife are suspected of keeping and using a false official document," explained the Moldovan anticorruption prosecutor's office.

According to the agency, Dodon used the document, which contained the referral to the rehabilitation treatment for the politician's son in order to obtain a permit to leave Moldova. The prosecutor's office stressed that his wife also participated in the submission of a false certificate to the law enforcement authorities of the country.

At the end of May 2022, Dodon was detained by law enforcement officers on suspicion of passive corruption, illicit enrichment, high treason and financing a political party by a criminal group. Initially, the politician was placed under house arrest, but later this decision was changed to a ban on leaving the country.
