The US must achieve peace in the South Caucasus, and deprive Russia of one of the main levers of its influence in the region. Senator James Risch noted about this during the hearings, at the US Senate Committee on Foreign Relations, on the assessment of the crisis in Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh).

If the US does not implement an effective policy, it may witness the restoration of Russia's influence, and even China might strengthen its role, Risch noted.

The US, together with its European allies, has an important role to play in the future of the Caucasus, James Risch said, adding that the actions by the US to respond to the crisis in Nagorno-Karabakh will be decisive in terms of the expansion of the US policy in the region.
