World Monuments Fund (WMF) has launched the World Monuments Watch 2014 campaign presenting a list of 67 cultural heritage sites at risk from the forces of nature and the impact of social, political, and economic change.

The list includes Bardzrakash St. Gregory Monastery, a complex located in Lori Region, in the north of Armenia.

“The site, now heavily overgrown by vegetation, is located on the edge of a deep canyon and is only accessible on foot, leading to an exciting sense of discovery for the visitor. Increasing local awareness of the significance of the historic monastery complex and its potential as a heritage destination represents the first step toward creating protection measures for Bardzrakash St. Gregory Monastery and engaging stakeholders in its preservation,” reads the statement on the WMF website.

The 2014 Watch features 67 sites in 41 countries and territories, dating from prehistory to the twentieth century. The 2014 Watch serves as a call to action, bringing the fragility of the sites and the dangers they face to international attention.
