YEREVAN. – Armenia’s President Serzh Sargsyan, who is on a state visit to Singapore, met with the country’s leaders on Wednesday.

Singaporean President Tony Tan Keng Yam welcomed Sargsyan at the Governmental Residence, and then they headed to the Meetings’ Hall, Armenian President’s Press Office informed Armenian News-NEWS.am. At the meeting, Tony Tan Keng Yam noted that although diplomatic relations between Armenia and Singapore were established but a mere twenty years ago, the history of the two countries’ relations go back to more than a century. Also, the President of Singapore expressed his country’s assistance to Armenia, specifically offering experience exchange.          

Serzh Sargsyan agreed to this offer, and expressed a desire to utilize Singapore’s development track-record.  

At the same Governmental Residence, Armenia’s President also met with Singaporean PM, Lee Hsien Loong. The latter likewise recalled the Singaporean-Armenian community’s important role, and expressed a wish see the close Armenian-Singaporean economic ties restored.   

Lee Hsien Loong and Serzh Sargsyan had taken part in the Nuclear Safety Summit, which was held in Seoul on Tuesday. In this regard, the Singaporean PM underscored the attendance to this summit, specifically noting: “Small countries do not decide a vector of international relations, but they live with international rules.” 

And as a result of talks with the Singaporean leadership, both countries also signed documents on Wednesday. In particular, the governments of the two countries signed a memorandum of cooperation in the cultural sphere, and an agreement on mutually lifting visa requirements for those persons who carry diplomatic and service passports.
