YEREVAN. – There are about 422,000 female children at the age below 18, informs the United Nations report Ending Child Marriage, published on Thursday on the International Day of the Girl Child.

Due to abortions, on average 1,400 female children are killed never having chance to be born in Armenia, the UN informs Armenian News-NEWS.am. There are already less female children than male children (the difference is 45,000) and the tendency goes on. 

20,287 girls and 23,160 boys were born in Armenia last year, and the proportion is 100 girls for 114 boys, while the natural proportion should make 100 girls to 102-106 boys.

To note, the UN is the first organization to celebrate the Day of the Girl and the topic for this year is Ending Child Marriage.
