Chairman Artak Zakaryan of the Armenian National Assembly Standing Committee on Foreign Relations met, on Monday in Bucharest, with Varuzhan Pambukchyan, the Romanian-Armenian community leader and head of the Romanian parliamentary faction on national minorities.

They examined the activities of the Armenia-Romania Parliamentary Friendship Group, the parliamentary ties, and matters of bilateral interest raised by the MPs. Also, Pambukchyan briefed Zakaryan on the activities of the Romanian-Armenian community, and noted its main challenges and the domains of partnership with Armenia.

Subsequently, Artak Zakaryan got together with László Borbély, Chairman of the Romanian Parliament’s Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs.

The interlocutors discussed establishing cooperation between the two standing committees. Also, Zakaryan briefed Borbély on the priorities of Armenia’s foreign policy, the settlement process of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and Azerbaijan’s deconstructive approach in this regard.

In his turn, László Borbély underscored the cooperation between the parliament members and expressed a readiness to assist in the implementation of mutual visits and joint projects. Being an ethnic Hungarian and a member of the Democratic Union of Hungarians in Romania, Borbély expressed regret over what transpired recently and considered a huge diplomatic mistake the Azerbaijani president’s step toward glorifying Azerbaijani army officer Ramil Safarov, who had axed to death Armenian soldier Gurgen Margaryan in Budapest and who was released in Azerbaijan.

On Tuesday, Artak Zakaryan will attend the political assembly of the European People’s Party.
