YEREVAN. – Italy aims to contribute to the peaceful prosperity process in the South Caucasus region, Italian defense minister, Admiral Giampaolo di Paola stated Wednesday during a news conference in Armenia’s capital city Yerevan. In his words, this visit is very important because it is his first-ever trip to Armenia.  

Reflecting on the cooperation agreement signed on the same day between the governments of Armenia and Italy, the Italian minister stressed: “As a state and as a NATO member, Italy attaches a great importance to cooperation with the region and with Armenia.”  

Also, Giampaolo di Paola pointed to Armenia’s active engagement in international programs, and added: “Italy wishes to enhance and contribute to the peace process.” In the Italian minister’s view, cooperation with Armenia in the defense sector will complement the existing gaps in cooperation.
