YEREVAN. – The Armenian citizens are not surprised with the fact that politicians are blamed for bribery, expert at the Transparency International (TI) Varuzhan Oktanyan wrote in his article posted on the TI blog.

“Usually those blames do not have a huge effect and in some cases they simply switch the post and in very rare cases they do carry a responsibility,” he wrote bringing an example of the ex-Minister of Nature Protection and incumbent MP Vardan Aivazyan who was blamed for taking a bribe and called guilty by the U.S. court.

According to the citizens’ estimations, Armenia’s police and court are among the most corrupted institutions.

Besides, the TI Armenia asked the Armenian Committee on ethics to consider the case of the MP. However, the application was rejected claiming Aivazyan made the alleged crime before becoming MP, while the norms of the committee were established in May 2012.
