YEREVAN. – Armenia’s opposition ARF Dashnaktsutyun Party is not seeking the Savior as the President at any cost because that method will not work, ARF MP Artsvik Minasyan stated at a briefing on Friday at the National Assembly, Armenian News-NEWS.am reporter informs.   

In his words, that method does not work because the Christian world already had one Savior, who was crucified. “Now, we cannot find a savior in the form of a person. And the way out is the gathering of around ideas and programs,” Minasyan noted.    

He expressed a view that Armenia needs structural reforms as a result of which both the man and the system will change. “[Incumbent President] Serzh Sargsyan’s leaving will not change the system. We are speaking about systemic changes,” the MP said.     

With respect to the ARF’s likely candidate for next February’s presidential elections, Artsvik Minasyan noted that the party proposed a seven-point approach and holding political consultations. “If a [suitable] candidate is nominated, consolidation around him is possible,” he said.

In response to the query as to whether the ARF could support Sargsyan in the elections, Artsvik Minasyan noted: “If President Serzh Sargsyan accepts these seven points and guarantees their implementation, why not?”
