YEREVAN. – Armenia’s full membership to the Eurasian Economic Community (EurAsEC) will become an urgent matter in the month of December, Haykakan Zhamanak daily reports.   

“During that month, [Armenia’s President] Serzh Sargsyan and [Russian Federation] RF President Vladimir Putin will meet within the framework of the CIS summit in [Turkmenistan’s capital city] Ashgabat. And during that meeting, according to our information, Putin will demand from Serzh Sargsyan to express a clear position on whether Armenia will be included in EurAsEC. 

The thing is that the matter of EurAsEC membership has become the ‘criterion’ whereby it will be decided whether Armenia is going toward the West, or toward Russia.   

Armenia’s membership issue is again becoming urgent in the lead-up to the 2013 presidential elections [in the country]. It should be noted that this ‘West-Russia’ dilemma will greatly impact Armenia’s domestic political developments,” Haykakan Zhamanak writes.
