Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian paid a visit to Abu Dhabi, in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), on Tuesday.

First, he met with UAE Federal National Council Speaker Mohammed Ahmed Al Murr. The Speaker expressed a satisfaction by the friendly relations between the two countries and expressed a hope that this visit will further strengthen the cooperation. 

Mohammed Ahmed Al Murr and Edward Nalbandian exchanged views on expanding the bilateral interaction between Armenia and UAE, and discussed regional and international matters.

In Abu Dhabi, Armenia’s FM also held talks with his UAE colleague, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan. They pointed to the developing bilateral ties and spoke about the inaugural session of the intergovernmental commission, consultations between the two MFAs, the legal and contractual framework, economic cooperation, and education and cultural exchange. Also, they underscored the founding of UAE Embassy in Armenia. In addition, both FMs discussed international matters, and Nalbandian briefed his colleague on the ongoing efforts toward settling the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. Also, Nalbandian and Al Nahyan reflected on collaboration and supporting of one another’s candidacies within international venues.         

After their meeting, the two FMs signed an intergovernmental agreement on air communication. 

Armenia’s Foreign Minister also met with Sheikha Lubna Al Qasimi, the UAE Minister for Foreign Trade, during which they explored the avenues for developing trade and economic cooperation between the two countries. Al Qasimi recalled her visits to Armenia and noted that the arrangements that were made during those visits are being implemented. The interlocutors examined the preparations for forming an intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation, and reflected on the ways to increase the volume of agricultural products being exported to UAE from Armenia.    

On the evening of the same day, Edward Nalbandian was at Armenia’s Embassy in Abu Dhabi, where he met with representatives from the Armenian community of the United Arab Emirates.
