YEREVAN. – Armenia’s opposition Heritage Party Chairman Raffi Hovannisian did not rule out the possibility of the opposition forces running for next February’s presidential elections with a single candidate. Hovannisian himself stated this during a press conference on Wednesday adding that he will respond to related queries upon his return from the Azerbaijani capital city Baku, where he will attend and address at the International Conference of Asian Political Parties.   

“The [political] discussions are in progress. If we succeed in emphasizing the similarities, running with a collective candidate [of the political opposition] will not only be possible [in the presidential race] but indispensable, too,” he said.    

Heritage’s leader intends to run for president, but, also, he noted that the proposal for a collective candidate has no contender. “If they [that is, the opposition] gather in a collective unity together with me, this will be a wining option,” Hovannisian noted.      

Also, he stressed that this single candidacy should lead to triumph. “[But] I rule out nothing. [And] I will reject any approach that will mislead the people and result in arrangement to de facto continue this ruling power,” Raffi Hovannisian noted.
