YEREVAN. – The Armenian opposition’s running in next year’s presidential elections with a single candidate can be neither ruled out nor confirmed, opposition Heritage Party Board member, former MP and currently MP candidate, political scientist Stiopa Safaryan said during a press conference on Thursday.

“Everyone is attempting to make own candidate become the single candidate. [But] It is not yet visible as to if their leader does not become a candidate, mutual concessions and supporting of the other [political] party’s candidate is possible,” he said.

Speaking on the views that the political consultations, which were launched by the non-pro-government Prosperous Armenia Party, are nothing but “stage acting,” Stiopa Safaryan noted: “If it is not a serious process, why is the worry so serious? It is noticed that the [ruling Republican Party] RPA does not see it as a witness to a stage acting.”

Also, the political scientist stated that RPA should have participated in Wednesday’s National Assembly special session, which was announced—but not convened due to no quorum—at the initiative of the opposition bloc Armenian National Congress.
