Armenia and Russia have a preliminary agreement to create a joint venture, Armenian PM Tigran Sargsyan said speaking about plans to build a new unit of the nuclear power plant in Armenia.

He said 50% will be financed by Russia and other 50% - by Armenia. However, it is possible that Armenia may reconsider participation and attract private investors to build a nuclear power plant.

“In any case, our Russian partners are ready to discuss this model since we had interesting offers from major investors,” Premier said in an interview with Interfax.

The construction was expected to start in 2014, but the events in Japan following the Fukushima accident demanded extra time.

Tigran Sargsyan noted the investors from America, Japan and the Middle East showed interest in the project. The mediators are clarifying the details, he added.

One of the alternatives is receiving Russian loan for the project. “A possibility of getting loan from the Eurasian crisis fund is being considered, too,” he emphasized.
