YEREVAN.- Parliament’s standing committee on state and legal affairs supported the initiative of the opposition Armenian National Congress bloc to create a new ad hoc committee on March 1 events.
Committee members presenting parliamentary majority — Republican Party and Orinats Yerkir — offered to postpone voting on ad hoc committee for a period up to a year. The author of the bill can put it to the vote any time during a year. The author is also offered to remove political assessments.
The author of the bill Gagik Jahangiryan agreed to the proposals saying he would submit a bill once again after the 2013 presidential elections.
Armenian opposition did not recognize official results of the presidential election held on February 19, 2008. Leader of the opposition Levon Ter-Petrosyan organized rallies in the Liberty Square, in the center of Yerevan, which lasted until March when thousands took to the streets demanding that official election results should be canceled. Ten people died as a result of confrontation.
