YEREVAN. – High-level meeting of the United Nations Central Emergency Response Fund (UN CERF) was convened Tuesday in New York City.    

Armenia’s Ambassador to UN, Karen Nazaryan, also attended and addressed the event. In his remarks, Nazaryan noted that Armenia is committed to continue providing its modest assistance to the UN humanitarian system because, having experienced the disastrous 1988 earthquake, Armenia clearly understands the suffering and needs of the people that are facing emergency situations, MFA press service informs.       

Ambassador Nazaryan assured that the Government of Armenia will assist CERF in 2013 as well. Also, he commended the director of the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UN OCHA) for effective management of the CERF funds aimed at promoting quick and preventive response and reducing losses during emergencies.
