YEREVAN. – As a rule, the presidential elections in Armenia are more stressful than the parliamentary voting. But the current situation shows that these two processes have reversed their roles, political technologist and television program host Karen Kocharyan stated during a press conference on Thursday.

“There is the serving president, and the seven other [presidential] candidates none of whom [, however,] has real chances to win the forthcoming presidential election [to be held on February 18]. Their motives to run in the election could be different. Some of them have entered the [presidential] race so as to remain in the political process; others seek to obtain political or material dividends,” Kocharyan noted.

In his view, it is more likely that the incumbent president’s inauguration—and not a presidential election—will actually take place on February 18.
