YEREVAN.- Armenian presidential candidate Paruyr Hayrikyan wrote on Facebook about his health condition and alleged reports saying a gunman was detained.

“Regarding the January 31attack, I have good news for honest Armenians and bad - for windbags. I can not say much. The consequences of the assassination attempt are being revealed. I think official information will be circultaed.

My 29-cm depth wound is healing. I still have pain, my right arm does not work. At night I had two injections to be able to close my eyes, although I am against it. I still feel unbearable pain,” he wrote.

Earlier media reported the gunman had been detained. Law enforcers have neither confirmed nor dismissed the reports yet.

An assassination attempt was made against presidential candidate, opposition National Self-Determination Union Chairman Paruyr Hayrikyan, on January 31 in downtown Yerevan, in front of his home. Hayrikyan was shot and hospitalized with a gunshot wound.

A criminal case is opened in connection with the assassination attempt against Paruyr Hayrikyan. It is launched on charges of carrying out an assassination attempt against a statesman, political or public figure, which—that is, the attempt—is carried out to end this person’s noted activities. This crime is punishable by imprisonment for 12-20 years, or life in prison.
