YEREVAN. – The new EU Centre in Armenia hosted an official opening ceremony for the members of the diplomatic corps and representatives of Armenian educational institutions on Friday, 8 February 2013.

The Head of the EU Delegation to Armenia, Ambassador Traian Hristea said in his welcoming speech that education is a ticket to the future.

 “Only those, who prepare for tomorrow will be successful. The EU Centre will work with university and secondary school students to increase awareness about the European Union and its activities in Armenia,” Ambassador Hristea said.

In his turn, Minister of Education Armen Ashotyan noted that the center opens a new page in Armenia-EU cooperation. He pointed out educational sector as a key point of cooperation, contributing to Armenia’s European integration.

In collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Science, the EU Centre will assist teachers in developing and implementing EU-related courses at schools and universities.

The Team Leader of the project, Ehtel Halliste said that working with young people is always very rewarding as “it works always both ways, teaching is also learning and learning is teaching.”

Representatives of Armenia’s educational institutions and members of the diplomatic missions from EU and non-EU member states, participated in the ceremony.

The new EU center opened on January 31 in the center of Yerevan to become the EU communication hub.
