The Saint Hripsime Church and a residential building completely collapsed Saturday in Sevakar village, nearby Kapan city, of Armenia’s Syunik Region, Sevakar village prefect Arshavir Hakobyan told Armenian News-NEWS.am.   

Fortunately, there were no visitors in the church at the time.

The Saint Hripsime Church was built in 1900, but it was never restored. The village prefect had petitioned several competent authorities with a request to have the church restored, but he was told to find a benefactor.  

To note, Sevakar village has no cleric, and the church was built by refugees from the Azerbaijani capital, Baku. 

An operative team from the regional rescue department is dispatched to the scene of the incident, the Ministry of Emergency Situations Rescue Service informed Armenian News-NEWS.am.
