YEREVAN. – The petition, whereby the Armenian Electoral Commission (CEC) decision on the election of the President of Armenia is contested, is fifteen pages; this assumes that the justifications must comprise at least ten pages. In reality, however, 4-5 pages are general assumptions and, subsequently, the laws are literally reprinted. CEC Chairman Tigran Mukuchyan stated this to news reporters on Tuesday, commenting on former presidential contender, opposition Heritage Party leader, former FM Raffi Hovannisian’s petition that was submitted to the Constitutional Court, and with a formal request to declare the February 18 presidential election null and void.   

At the same time, as per Mukuchyan, citing laws should not be an end unto itself.      

“They must note that this is noted in this article of the law, but this happened in reality, this was recorded. I do not see the cause & effect link between the petition and the laws that are cited,” Mukuchyan said in particular.
