YEREVAN. – A decrease in the number of emergency cases was recorded in Armenia in 2012 and, for the most part, this reduction is due to less number of fires, Crisis Management Center Director Hovhannes Khangeldyan said during a press conference on Thursday.  

In the case when 11,087 emergency situations were recorded in the country in 2011, this made up 10,566 in the year past, but, still, this is more than that in 2010 (9,816).

As a consequence of a variety of urgent situations, 564 people were killed and 8,116 were injured in 2012. To compare, 522 people were killed and 7,451 were injured in 2011, whereas 467 people were killed and 5,768 were injured in 2010. 

The year past also recorded 6,035 emergency situations of technical nature (6,761 in 2011, and 6,439 in 2010), 400 natural disasters (440 in 2011, and 362 in 2010), and 4,131 social-household accidents (3,886 in 2011, and 3,015 in 2010).

The statistics also show that the lowest number of fires in Armenia was recorded in 2012.
