YEREVAN. – I consider pitching a tent on Armenian capital city Yerevan’s Liberty Square to be wanderer-like, Yerevan Council’s ruling Republican Party Faction member, architect Levon Igityan said during a press conference on Friday. 

To a query as to whether the pavement of the square actually has a historical and a cultural value that opposition Heritage Party leader, former FM Raffi Hovannisian—who is declared runner-up to the winner, incumbent President Serzh Sargsyan, as a result of the presidential election that was conducted on February 18, but who claims to be the real winner in the vote and who declared a hunger strike on March 10 at capital city Yerevan’s Liberty Square—was not permitted to pitch a tent there, Igityan responded that the aura, the area of the square itself are a historical and a cultural value.   

“[Is this] a [Soviet-era] pioneer camp? I consider this to be wanderer-like,” he stated.    

Levon Igityan also noted that he has close relations with Hovannisian but, also, he characterized as a state of “homelessness” the tent which former presidential candidate Andreas Ghukasyan had pitched during the election campaign season.
