Turkish director Semih Kaplanoglu's film “Bal” (“Honey”) won Berlin Film Festival’s prestigious Golden Bear prize for 2010, berlinale website reports.

The silver prize for the best direction was given to French Roman Polanski for his “The Ghost Writer” film. The movie generated considerable interest at the film festival, particularly because of the director's arrest in Switzerland and his current extradition trial on old charges of sexual abuse.

Japanese Shinobu Terajima won silver Bear for the best actress for the role in the “Caterpillar” by Japanese director Koji Wakamatsu.

This year's Alfred Bauer Prize was awarded to Florian Serban’s debut film 'If I Want to Whistle, I Whistle'.
