YEREVAN. – Armenia’s opposition Heritage Party Chairman, former FM Raffi Hovannisian—who was declared runner-up to the winner, incumbent President Serzh Sargsyan—is not solving personal matters. International expert, opposition Armenian National Movement Party Board former member Hovhannes Igityan said this during a press conference on Thursday, commenting on the protest movement which Hovannisian has launched.

The analyst noted that, now, the people are speaking more about what Hovannisian needs to do next, rather than what Sargsyan ought to do.

“The moves must be sequential in politics. I believe Raffi Hovannisian has made his move. He ran in the elections, had a successful election campaign, we can say he won the elections, the people like him, and he was able to preserve the image of a winner in a civilized manner,” Igityan argued.

In his view, now President Sargsyan should think about how to act in the current situation, and what to do with those that created this situation and brought down his standing.

“[But] most importantly, there was no bloodshed and there are no political prisoners. There is no obstacle standing before discourse,” Hovhannes Igityan noted, and added that the situation is changing at different phases, but there is still no way out.
