YEREVAN. – None of Armenia’s political parties have so far issued statements on joining the New Armenia movement, which is launched by opposition Heritage Party Chairman, former FM Raffi Hovannisian—who was declared runner-up to the winner, incumbent President Serzh Sargsyan, as a result of the presidential election that was conducted on February 18, but who claims to be the real winner in the vote.

Opposition ARF Dashnaktsutyun Party Supreme Body representative Arsen Hambardzumyan told Armenian News-NEWS.am that, considering the forthcoming capital city Yerevan Council election, it would be correct to focus on this vote now and, subsequently, they will reflect on the aforesaid matter, too.

According to Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP) National Assembly Faction Secretary Naira Zohrabyan, PAP discuses solely those proposals which contain a serious political agenda.        

“Heritage’s political agenda is not discernible for us. We are ready to discuss purely political agendas, and not church rituals,” she added.  

In response to Armenian News-NEWS.am’s query as to whether the opposition Armenian National Congress (ANC) Party will join the Hovannisian-led New Armenia civil movement, ANC Spokesperson Arman Musinyan responded as follows:   

“We are a political organization and a political movement.”

In his turn, Yerevan Former Mayor Vahagn Khachatryan, who heads the ANC list for the Yerevan Council election, noted that their task is to carry out a change in power, and all those political forces that have such plan will do their utmost so that the current system of power is removed.
