Relations between Moscow and Yerevan have reached the level of partnership of allies, official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

In an interview with RIA Novosti spokesman for Russian MFA Alexander Lukashevich commented on the upcoming visit of Armenian FM Edward Nalbandian to Moscow.

Speaking about the main directions of foreign policy cooperation between the states, Lukashevich said that Moscow and Yerevan are interested in cooperation within the framework of the CIS and the CSTO. He pointed out creation of a new Commission to explore the possibility of cooperation between Armenia and the Customs Union which had been recently agreed by the presidents of two states.

The first meting of the Commission was held in Moscow last December and the second – in Yerevan this April.

Lukashevich also said that Russia and Armenia are closely coordinating foreign policy efforts on the basis of the memorandum on cooperation between the foreign ministries and plan of inter-ministerial consultations.

“There is close cooperation in international organizations such as UN, OSCE, Council of Europe, the Organization of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation,” he said.

Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian will pay an official visit to Russia on April 25-26 at the invitation of his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov.
