Russia confidently holds the position of Armenia’s main economic partner, being a key trade partner and leading foreign investor in Armenia’s economy, Russian MFA said.  

In an interview with RIA Novosti spokesman for Russian MFA Alexander Lukashevich commented on the upcoming visit of Armenian FM Edward Nalbandian to Moscow.

In 2012 trade turnover comprised $1.2 billion, Lukashevich said. The total number of companies operating in Armenia with Russian capital is about 1,300. He recalled that leading  Russian companies such as Gazprom, Inter RAO UES, VTB Bank, Russian Railways, Russian Aluminum, and JFSC Sistema are operating in the Armenian market.

Energy sector is the priority of economic cooperation between the states, Lukashevich added.

Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian will pay an official visit to Russia on April 25-26 at the invitation of his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov.
