A conference honoring Armenian Genocide victims was held in Turkey’s Diyarbakir city. After the ceremony, participants threw roses to the Tigris River.

The event dedicated to Diyarbakir Armenians was held with the support of lawyers’ union and Diyarbakir municipality, Bianet.org reported.

The keynote speaker, director of the Gomidas Institute of London Ara Sarafians presented the history of the Armenian Genocide. Over 80,000 Armenians lived only in Diyarbakir, he said.

Sarafian noted that the goal of genocide was islamization of the Ottoman Empire.

The participants climbed the bridge over the Tigris River and threw roses in the place where Armenians were thrown to the river in 1915.
