YEREVAN. – Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan on Thursday received a delegation of MPs from the newly formed European Union (EU)-Armenia Friendship Group in the European Parliament.

The President considered the establishment of this group to be a demand and a necessity of the time, the President’s Press Office informs. Sargsyan expressed confidence that the activities of this group will contribute to further deepening of Armenia-EU relations and to raise, at the European Parliament, the matters of Armenia’s concern. 

In their turn, the European Parliament MPs first congratulated Serzh Sargsyan on Armenia’s recent presidential election and for being reelected President. They stressed that they will continue to assist Armenia at the European Parliament and at other European institutions.

The parties reflected on Armenia-EU relations, the respective present-day agenda, and the prospects for cooperation.     

The interlocutors also exchange views on regional problems and challenges, the current phase in the Nagorno-Karabakh peace process, Armenia-Turkey relations, the international recognition process of the Armenian Genocide, and other matters of mutual interest.
