YEREVAN. – The inpatient forensic psychiatric evaluation findings for Vrezh Galstyan—who had broken in the Armenian National Assembly (NA) building on March 22—are sent to the law enforcement agencies. According to our information, it was confirmed that he is mentally ill. Galstyan had said that he did not go to NA, but rather he was sent from outer space.     

The Prosecutor General’s press secretary Sona Truzyan told Armenian News-NEWS.am that it was confirmed that Galstyan suffers from a form of paranoid schizophrenia, he was in a state of morbid distress while carrying out the act, and the experts have deemed him insane.    

In addition, the court ruled in favor of the investigating body’s motion to transfer Galstyan to a mental hospital because he, according to expert opinion, continues to be a menace to society. As a result, Vrezh Galstyan was taken to Nubarashen Mental Clinic.          

The inquest is still in process.     

As Armenian News-NEWS.am informed earlier, a man sustained a gunshot wound as he tried to carry in a knife into the NA building on March 22. The man managed to enter the courtyard of the parliament, at about 2:30pm, and started voicing threats. The parliament’s security officers ordered him to throw the knife, but he disobeyed the order. Subsequently, the security officers fired shots in the air, but the man still did not follow the order. Consequently, the police officers were forced to fire at his leg. The NA physician provided medical assistance to the man until an ambulance arrived. The knife was confiscated, and the wounded man was taken to hospital.

It was found out that the person that unlawfully entered the NA area was Masis city resident Vrezh Galstyan, who was born in 1988. According to preliminary information, he has twice been convicted before. 

A Special Investigation Service (SIS) team was dispatched to the scene of the incident, and the necessary investigation was conducted. As a result, the SIS launched criminal proceedings against Vrezh Galstyan, and the court had sentenced Galstyan to two months.
