YEREVAN. – A total of 8,299 vehicles were imported to Armenia in the first quarter of 2013, the State Revenue Committee informs. 

The number of imported cars grew by 1,441, or by 21 percent, as compared to the first quarter of 2012.

The country’s customs agencies have levied close to $21 million so far this year from the import of vehicles. But this amount of customs charges is a disproportionate increase from the year past, since the growth in the number of imported cars primarily occurred on the account of importing cars that cost up to $10,000.  

But the number of imported expensive vehicles, which cost more than $30,000, comprised 399, or 4.8 percent of the total imports. A total of 567 expensive cars were imported to Armenia in the first quarter of 2012.

To note, a total of 34,700 vehicles were imported to Armenia last year.
