YEREVAN. – A 1.6 percent less number of marriages was recorded in Armenia in the first quarter of 2013, as compared to the same time period last year, National Statistical Service official Karine Kuyumjyan informed during a press conference on Tuesday.

In her words, a total of 4,591 matrimonies were registered in the country in the first quarter of the current year, and this comprised 6.1 per mil. Also, the number of marriages declined in capital city Yerevan and in Ararat Region, but it grew in Armavir, Gegharkunik, and Tavush Regions. 

The highest number of nuptials was recorded in Vayots Dzor Region, which is followed by Gegharkunik Region. The lowest indicator is in Tavush and in Syunik Regions. Yerevan’s respective indicator is 5.7 per mil.

Separately, the number of divorces in Armenia made up 897 in the first quarter of 2013, against 779 of the same time period in the year past. The most number of divorces was recorded in Lori Region.
