YEREVAN. – Armenia’s strength is in the Russian-Armenian friendly relations, First Secretary Ruben Tovmasyan of the Communist Party of Armenia (CPA) Central Committee stated during a press conference on Tuesday. 

In his words, when the Russian flag stops waving at the Russian military base that is stationed in Armenia’s second largest city, Gyumri, that will be the beginning of the end for the Republic of Armenia.   

“Some political forces claim that Russian troops should be withdrawn from Armenia because their presence ‘undermines the independence of the country.’ But, in reality, the situation is quite the opposite,” Tovmasyan noted.   

At the same time he stressed that the ties with the CSTO need to be strengthened, since this very organization is indispensable to ensure the security of Armenia.    

“Today, the Armenian and Russian border guards oversee our boundaries,” Tovmasyan added.

The CPA head also stressed that the party will fight for Armenia’s accession to Eurasian Union. 

“It can save Armenia, it will become a motivation for reviving industry, expanding the market, [and] ensuring peace, and the Armenian people will live with dignity,” Ruben Tovmasyan maintained.
