YEREVAN. – Debates on municipal economic problems likewise were held along the lines of the campaigning for the forthcoming Armenian capital city Yerevan Council elections, political scientist Alexander Markarov told Armenian News-NEWS.am. 

In his words, the politicization of the debates among the candidates was not the only one, and such thing had not occurred for a long time.  

“Naturally, the campaigning could not have refrained from political PR. Even though the elections will be local, it was impossible without politicizing a delicious slice—in the good sense of the word—such as Yerevan. But there also were substantial discussions on municipal economic problems,” Markarov stated.     

As Armenian News-NEWS.am informed earlier, six political parties and one bloc will run in the Yerevan Council elections. The latter will be conducted on Sunday, and the participating political forces will vie for 65 Council seats. The election campaign kicked off on April 7 and it will come to an end on Friday. The Yerevan Council election will be held with proportional lists only.
