YEREVAN. - Summer Olympics 1980 winner, famous weightlifter Yuri Vardanyan is nominated the Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports of the Republic of Armenia.
The decision to nominate Vardanyan, who currently is an advisor to President Serzh Sargsyan, was made on Tuesday at the meeting of the executive body of the ruling Republican Party of Armenia.
Also, at the meeting the Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan proposed to grant ministerial portfolio to the Government chief of staff. The proposal has been unanimously adopted by the Council and the executive body of the Republican Party, and the acting Minister of Finance Vache Gabrielyan was appointed for that position. At the same time, acting chief of staff of the Government, David Sarkisyan, was offered by the Republican Party to head of the Ministry of Finance.
Well-known international expert Vahram Avanesyan was offered the position of Minister of Economy, while acting Minister of Economy Tigran Davtyan, as a representative of the ruling party will work in another field.
All other government members will remain in office. In particular, Armen Gevorgyan was reappointed as the Vice-Prime Minister and Minister of Territorial Administration.
Three ministerial portfolios will be retained to a coalition partner of the ruling Republican Party, the Rule of Law Party, which should nominate its own candidates.
