YEREVAN. – Armenia has gone through three major elections in the past one year, President Serzh Sargsyan stated in his opening remarks at Wednesday’s first session of the newly appointed Government of Armenia.

In his words, as a result of last year’s parliamentary election, a parliament was formed that represents the entire political domain, and as a result of the presidential election on February 18, a new culture was formed. During the capital city Yerevan Council of Elders election on May 5, the people voiced once again that they demand and are prepared to support those politicians who work and prefer practical work over shows.

“The expectations from this government are very high, and I do not see any obstacle before working effectively. On the contrary, I see that favorable conditions are created to have good progress. The activities of the government will be evaluated by the results alone.

“Last year, the government was tasked with securing a minimum 7-percent economic growth, which was fulfilled. The same task is put forth this year, too, but we will expect qualitative indicators,” Sargsyan said.

As per the President, some of these indicators specifically will be the raising of salaries and pensions, optimization of the state apparatus, and the solution of specific social problems.

In closing, President Serzh Sargsyan wished the new Government success.

In response, PM Tigran Sargsyan assured that the Government will do its utmost to meet the expectations of Armenia’s President and citizenry.
