YEREVAN. – Armenia has not given up on the plans to build a new nuclear power plant (NPP).

Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan stated the aforementioned, during Monday’s National Assembly session, responding to a question posed by ruling Republican Party MP Naira Karapetyan.

Sargsyan said they simply postponed this process for two years because the financial resources need to be managed in optimal fashion, and that is why this provision was left out of the government’s program at this time.

As per the PM, the new NPP shall be built when the working plant is decommissioned once and for all. But studies need to be conducted to determine for how long the current plant will be in operation.

“When [this] becomes clear, we will determine accordingly as to when we shall build the new one,” Tigran Sargsyan concluded.
