YEREVAN. – The Haykakan Zhamanak daily’s reporter asked US Ambassador John Heffern why he is concerned that the French well-known Carrefour hypermarket chain might not open in Armenia, the daily reports.

‘“I believe Carrefour will open in Armenia. I am not involved in this matter. I have learned that it will open in Armenia at the year’s end. Ask the French ambassador about it,’ Ambassador Heffern said.  

To our reporter’s query what consequences will Armenia’s membership in EurAsEC [i.e., Eurasian Economic Community] have on the relations between our country and the West, the US ambassador responded:

‘Armenia works well with the EU; we support this work. Armenia has to make its own decisions. It must be able to balance these relations,’” Haykakan Zhamanak quotes.
