YEREVAN. – Protest actions in Turkey may affect the entire region and first of all Azerbaijan, turkologist Levon Hovsepyan said. 

He is confident that the processes will have serious consequences in Azerbaijan, taking into account possible clashes between different religious groups.

“I do not think that protest actions will have any effect on the Karabakh peace process. Some movement is possible only in case of weakening positions of the Azerbaijani ruling circles,” he said.

Turkish trade unions plan to hold strikes on Wednesday. The protestors will demand punishment for those using force against demonstrators and the release of detained activists.

Police used violence against protest action in Taksim Square of Istanbul which was followed by uprising throughout the country. Around 2,000 people were arrested and dozens were injured during the clashes. Environmental mottos turned into political ones demanding Erdogan’s resignation.
