Lithuania has assumed six-month presidency of the EU Council.

In an interview with ITAR-TASS, Deputy Speaker of the Seimas Gediminas Kirkilas said the priorities of the Lithuanian presidency are giving new impetus to the Eastern Partnership project, energy security issues, protection of EU external borders.

During its presidency, Lithuania will hold around 3,000 events and meetings in Brussles and Luxemburg. Vilnius will host numerous events, including the Eastern Partnership summit scheduled for November.

It is mentioned that another strong focus will be EU relations with Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine.
