YEREVAN. – Lake Sevan has a surprising natural purification potential, an Armenian environmentalist said.

Karine Danielyan, chairman of “For Sustainable Human Development NGO”, reflected on the current state of Lake Sevan.

“If we help Sevan a little, the lake will regulate the balance itself. It is an amazing natural phenomenon,” she told reporters on Wednesday.

In the framework of the UN program, NGO conducted a study of the current state of the lake. It turned out that as a result of rising water levels, the lake is turning into a swamp near the shore. However, the central part of the lake, on the contrary, has become cleaner, and water transparency increased.
