YEREVAN. – Diaspora Minister Hranush Hakobyan on Tuesday met with a delegation led by Liliam Kechichián, Minister of Tourism and Sport of Uruguay, who likewise is Armenian and is in Armenia on a working visit.

Hakobyan stressed that Armenia attaches great importance to Uruguay because it is the first country in the world to formally recognize and condemn the Armenian Genocide, informs the Ministry of Diaspora press service.

The minister also highly appreciated the Uruguayan government’s decision to open an Armenian Genocide Museum in the Uruguay capital city Montevideo. She added that the books and research papers which the Diaspora Ministry has published, and which are devoted to the genocide, will be donated to this museum.   

For her part, Kechichián underscored the Armenian community’s active role in the societal life of Uruguay. 

Hranush Hakobyan thanked the authorities of Uruguay for their caring attitude toward the Armenian community of the country. .

In addition, the diaspora minister briefed the guests on the Armenian government’s ongoing assistance provided to the Syrian Armenians that have moved to Armenia.
