YEREVAN. – People are to blame for wolves' attacks on the villages, Armenian environmentalist said.

Wolves are leaving habitat areas and are approaching the settlements because of people, chairman of “For Sustainable Human Development” NGO Karine Danielyan said.

“It is beyond doubt that those affected by wolves should receive compensation, but let's clarify who is to blame. Wolves are deprived of food because of people,” she added.

At the time of the hunting season, until the spring of 2015, Armenia's Ministry of Nature Protections sanctioned shooting of wolves.

Environmentalist Silva Adamian noted that the government had already received a number of their proposals on creation of artificial food reserve for wolves to protect cowsheds in the villages from attacks and to help farmers buy wolfhounds that would scare away the wolves.
