YEREVAN. – The incumbent authorities in Armenia are playing with the parliamentary forces.

Opposition Armenian National Movement party (ANM) Board Chairman Ararat Zurabyan told the aforesaid at a press conference on Tuesday. He stated this in response to a query on whether the powers that be will agree to transition to a 100-percent proportional electoral system.

“Our authorities have always been against the proportional electoral system because having election districts, using the entire funds they have, and sending their selected deputies to the parliament is an acceptable option for reproducing power.

“The authorities have one matter at present: passing the constitutional amendments. And they are attempting to create a climate of talks with the parliamentary forces, but they are doing what they want,” Zurabyan said.

The proposed constitutional reforms also envision changes in the system of governance in Armenia.
