YEREVAN. – The Russia-led Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) will fail; it will not have a long life.
The President of Yerevan Press Club in Armenia’s capital city, Boris Navasardyan, who is also European Union (EU) Eastern Partnership Civil Society Assembly Coordinator for Armenia, stated the aforementioned at a press conference on Wednesday.
In his words, in one or two months, the Armenian people will feel more the adverse consequences of Armenia’s forthcoming EEU accession.
Navasardyan noted that Armenia needs to differ from other countries (Russia, Belarus, and Kazakhstan) in this union to be able to maintain its sovereignty within the EEU.
The Yerevan Press Club president specified two developments that may occur in Armenia-EU relations once the country joins the EEU.
First, some EU officials believe that it is indispensable to find avenues for cooperation with the EEU, not to consider it as an opposite pole, but as a potential partner.
As per Navasardyan, the next option is for the EU to build relations with the countries, including Armenia, which have not signed the EU Association Agreement. According to him, however, there are problems in this regard because the EU is ready for anything which Armenia is ready for, but Armenia does not know what it is ready for.
“Unless there is clarity [on this matter], we can’t say what kind of relations there will be between Armenia and the EU,” Boris Navasardyan concluded.
