YEREVAN. – Armenia is compelled to share the joy and sadness of the Russian ruble, sociologist Aharon Adibekyan stated.

He noted the aforesaid at a press conference on Monday, and commenting on Armenia’s forthcoming accession to the Russia-led Eurasian Economic Union (EEU).

“Of course, [Russian President Vladimir] Putin said that there will be no single currency [within the EEU], but there will be economic integration issues.

“So, January and February of 2015 will show the extent we [, Armenia,] will gain, or lose, from the EEU accession,” Adibekyan said.

Economist Vilen Khachatryan, for his part, noted that the pressure on the Russian ruble may continue until next February and March, but the sanctions against Russia may ease thereafter. Hence, as per the economist, a certain degree of strengthening may be expected in the ruble and an increased purchasing power in the remittances to Armenia.
